You don't have to be 'arty' to benefit from art therapy!

Express yourself without words

Create something new or different

Discover different perspectives and viewpoints

Creative arts therapy uses making, along with ‘word’ language skills. Registered Art Therapists are professionals who have training and experience that can help you to:

  • Recognise, express, and explore emotions and values

  • Recognise and regulate thoughts and behaviours

  • Unpack complex, distressing or confusing situations you don't have words for

  • Explore different possibilities and pathways in your life

Nature-based Therapy or Ecotherapy is an emerging field grounded in the knowledge that we are all part the web of life and that our emotional and spiritual health are deeply connected to the earth.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happens in a session? First we establish a safe therapeutic relationship by reviewing what you need and what our responsibilities are in therapy. Sometimes we'll talk a lot, sometimes it will be mostly making. It depends on what you need.

Where are sessions held? You can work indoors or outside in a mutually agreed safe space. You may be comfortable at home, or a park, support agency, school, or in a studio space (e.g. Fproject at Warrnambool). Working outdoors can allow you to move freely and connect with nature.

What materials can I use? Creative arts therapy can include: paint, drawing, printmaking, textiles, found objects, music, voice and sound, movement, storytelling, writing, poetry, or clay. If you have an idea we can explore.

What about NDIS and funding? You can use your NDIS funding if you are plan managed or self-managed, however Jodie is not an NDIS registered provider. Check with your private health fund provider if they provide rebates for registered art therapists.

How long are sessions and what do they cost? Individual sessions are usually for one hour and cost $150, including basic materials. Contact Jodie for information about group sessions.

What's the difference between art therapy and an art class? Art therapy is about you, art class is about what you are making.
